Ever since we went to the Masters in 2010 with my sister and her husband, we have gotten together on Masters Sunday for a southern food feast and watch the final day of the historic golf tournament. This year was exciting since one of our favorite golfers won, Rory Mcllroy, in a sudden-death playoff. That was exciting. My sister invited her childhood girlfriend and her husband who are also avid golfers to the Masters Sunday feast this year. The more the merrier is our motto. And we really had a feast, too. The main entree this year was shrimp & grits, recipe from the NY Times that my sister made.
It was made with a flavorful tomato base with jumbo shrimp and she served it in bowls on top of cheese grits. So good!
This really could have been a meal on its own, it was so good. But we had to include all the fixin's, mostly out of our notorious Mrs. Wilkes Cookbook. We both bought her cookbook after we ate at her dinning room in Savanah, Georgia that was one of the most wonderful eating experiences ever. I wrote about it here and would highly recommend it if you are ever in Savanah, Georgia. Now, we try to duplicate the experience on Masters Sunday. Here is my sister at the table in Mrs. Wilkes Dinning Room.
Here was our table yesterday.
Not all the fixin's are even on the table yet but you get the idea. I made the historic ambrosia salad:
1 cup mandarin oranges, drained
1 cup pineapple, drained
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mini marshmallows
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mini marshmallows
1 cup shredded coconut
In Mrs.Wilkes Cookbook, she calls it Five Cup Salad. There was NO leftover of this one so I guess you could say it was a favorite.
Also, coleslaw and the Southern Pimento Cheese Dip that is one of my favorites.
My sister also made biscuits and everyone's favorite Succotash.
For dessert, she made Arnold Palmer cupcakes made with lemon and tea; so clever.
All and all, our plates looked like this:
We would all agree that is was another successful Masters Sunday.
