Ham and Cheese Sliders

I have a perfect football playoff recipe to share since it's getting down to the wire for the Super Bowl.  You could easily serve these for a super bowl party or for any of the playoff games.  I made them for our Seahawks game when they clinched the playoffs on New Year's Day .  We had a little football party at our house on that day and then ten people came over for dinner.  It was a fun way to start our New Year.    Unfortunately, the Seahawks lost their first playoff game but it was exciting while it lasted.  As I write this, we are vacationing in Hawaii recovering from a busy holiday season.  And it's a great way to recover.  Every night is a gorgeous sunset so we always plan where we want to be each evening to watch it.  We are on the Big Island of Hawaii on the Kona coast which is where we like to come in Hawaii.  This year we made a family vacation out of it since Lauren, Nick, Sachiyo and the grandkids were all able to ...

Happy New Year 2017

We woke up on our New Year with fresh snow and it was so quiet and beautiful.  I love waking up to a surprise like that especially since snow is so rare here.  It apparently snowed in the early morning hours, not last night while all the celebrating was going on. I was too tired to stay up until midnight but Bruce said he could see the fireworks at the Space Needle while laying in bed, a show that lasted 10 minutes - talk about watching fireworks in the comforts of your own home or should I say, own bed. This isn't quite our view but you get the idea. I haven't had any food postings for awhile because I haven't been doing much cooking since Christmas.  With Nick and Sachiyo visiting, I was constantly cooking and eating, then Christmas, more cooking and eating...it feels good to just not think about cooking and eating for awhile.  I did, however, enjoy the feast we had on Christmas at my brother's house with my entire family, at least those who live here loca...

Weekend Snapshots

I had quite the weekend, not actually food related, mostly sports related with food scattered here and there. Yesterday, we had brunch at a bar called  Bill's Off Broadway .   Why at a bar, you ask?  Because we had the unfortunate conflict of having tickets to the  Book of Mormon  Broadway musical, while the Seattle Seahawks were to play their first post-season playoff game in Minnesota close to the same time.   We knew we would most likely miss the 4th quarter since the play started at 1:00 pm and the game started at 10:00 am.  We decided to record the game and watch the 4th quarter when we got home.  We would force ourselves not to look at our smart phones to see what happened and watch our recording at home to get the full effect of the outcome.  NOT HAPPENING.  We debated a lot about what to do about this  dilemma.  I guess you could say it was a botched Christmas present from me.  The minute I bought the ...

Super Bowl 2015

The party is over The beer has been drunk The food has been eaten  The TV has been turned off The buffalo wings have been devoured The rally jacket from the 80's has been hung back up in the closet...or maybe burned, I'm not sure The betting board has all been bet on. Marshawn Lynch's skittles have turned into a sad face The city's billboards have been taken down The 12th Man flags wave no more The once brilliant city skyline is now dark The cheers and wine toasts are now silent The Irish coffees are dry The lights are now turned off The fog has lifted The toys have been picked up Beast Mode should have run that last play Our beloved Seahawks lost the Super Bowl
