We went to our first Christmas party of the season last night and I just had to post all the festive food ideas.  It was an appetizer, drinks and dessert Christmas party for about eight of us neighbors. It's nice to just walk down the street past three houses and we're there.                          My neighbor, Karen, loves to host parties and I've written about her parties  here  and   here  and other various places.  We've lived on this street going on ten years now and I can't even remember how many of her parties we've been to.  One of her best parties was when she turned 80 a couple of years ago and she had an 80's themed party.  (I went with the Madonna-look). Her food spread is always impressive. If you want an appetizer that looks festive, this one will definitely work for you, plus they are a tasty combination of pesto, roasted red peppers and feta cheese.  They are easy to serve and easy to eat. Those are the kind of appetizers I like.  For our Christmas party, I like to serve small little tidbits of a variety of items that aren't too filling that always includes some vegetables and lean meats or cold cuts, the usual crackers that include rice crackers for those who avoid gluten and freshly cut cheeses, along with a platter of our   Christmas cookies  just because they look Christmas-y. This year, I bought some olives from those olive bars you always see in the stores and put them on a wreath of fresh sprigs of rosemary for the holiday look. We got some Harry and David pears from Bruce's parents so I threw together this appetizer with dried cranberries which was very festive looking for a dinner last night when friends came over. And I had to go slice up a few more because they got eaten so quickly!  Delicious and perfect for merry making!!
