Happy Birthday, Lauren!

Today is Lauren's birthday and even though she is not here, we did celebrate her birthday last week when she was in town.  With all the celebrations in our family in July, ( my birthday ,  Nick's birthday , Lauren's birthday and  our wedding an niversary )  we often must celebrate when we're simply able to celebrate. (Actually, we just celebrate all month!)   Lauren's request to celebrate at  Barbacoa was not a surprise.  It's everyone's favorite Boise restaurant in our family.  Lauren lives in Seattle but came to Boise with a friend to attend a wedding.  They floated the Boise River that day so they had worked up an appetite for a good dinner.  We were seated at a great table outside facing a lake. Our table allowed us to enjoy a beautiful view and to watch the natural wildlife. We even saw a deer dart right in front of our table and run right across the lakeshore in front of us!  This was near the end of our evening and we w

Happy Anniversary to Us

Tonight we celebrated our anniversary…sort of…by popping open a bottle of champagne that my sister gave us for an anniversary gift which was actually July 18th but we are just now getting around to it.  We then had a nice relaxing evening…sort of.  We barbecued some salmon patties from Whole Foods which were delicious, along with some rice and green salad and we picked some strawberries from the garden which we are thoroughly enjoying right now. They were delicious with our champagne.  Happy 32nd anniversary to us!  (Wow, that's a long time!) We have been having very pleasant, warm summer evenings so we enjoy sitting outside (with an occasion thunder storm rolling in…but then a rainbow.) The peace has been slightly disrupted, however, with two roosters causing havoc with our flock. One of our neighbors g

A Birthday of Favorites

Today is my birthday so I am spending it at all my favorite places and doing all my favorite things.  Everyone has a local farmer's market they like going to on Saturdays but before the popular trend started popping up around the country, there was…   the Public Market in Seattle or the official name, The Pike Place Market. This is my absolutely favorite place. The Public Market was always a regular stop for me as a Seattleite. Can you believe there was a time when they were going to tear it down?  But we got involved in the movement to preserve the Market and bought a tile to donate money towards it. We also bought a tile for my parents, Dick and Anne Hernon, so our love for the Market will be preserved forever.  We have so many favorite places here. The fish, of course, is the best.  We are always amazed at how the prices keep going up. We are lucky to be able to eat our fill of king salmon from Bruce's
