Wine Braised Short Ribs

I've already decided what I'm making for Valentine's Day and this is it.  It is as good as any fine dining restaurant so I would suggest that you go for it, too.  I got this recipe from our local grocery store,  Metropolitan Market .  It's an upscale grocery store that prides itself on respect for quality ; pretty much the same philosophy for food as me and everyday is a cause for celebration; also the same as me when it comes to food.   We were a match made in heaven.  Most their stuff is local and the freshest of any store around here and you can taste the difference.   I hardly go anywhere else, to be honest.  I made this recipe for dinner recently and right then and there decided that this was a "special occasion recipe".  However, the only special occasion we are having these days are seeing our grandkids.  They come over for dinner occasionally and Nick has already started talking about Valentine's Day and has asked me if I  would make my heart cake

Baked Apple Crumble Slices

Are you on a detoxing regimen since the New Year to rid yourself of all the sweets you ate over the holidays?  Or maybe your New Year's resolution was to now eat healthy after over-indulging during the holidays.  Or maybe you've already given up on your New Year's resolution.  Well, I'm here to save the day!  I made a dessert yesterday for my family that tasted very indulgent and delightful.  And there were no complaints that there was zero added sugar in it.  You would never know it.  Even my 4-year old and 2-year old grandchildren loved this recipe.  Maybe you have children you are trying to curb their sugar intake.  Maybe you are an adult who is trying to curb your sugar intake.  I love this recipe because it is for everybody.  It's a SUPER easy recipe; so much so that my grandchildren made it and your children can make it, too. If you haven't figured it out yet, this recipe is once again from  Hannah Freese, RD  who provides lots of recipes to lower your sug

Pizza Stuffed Zucchini Boats

Friday night is pizza night, right?  I hear this with many families so last night we decided to have "pizza night" via   The Freese Method .  The Freese Method is a diet where you avoid sugar, dirty oils and processed, refined carbs to fix your broken metabolism.  I've been doing it since September and it has gotten easier and easier.  Now, I look forward to finding new ways to incorporate the recipes into my daily life.  Pizza, anybody?  Bruce and I both loved this recipe.  I halved the recipe since there were only two of us but I wouldn't do that again because these were so good, we could have eaten more.  (There are no portion restrictions with this diet plan.)  I was wondering if the grandkids would like these but I think they really like their breads.  This recipe is a lot like my  Tuna Boats  that are a very kid-friendly dish that Nick and Lauren always ate growing up.  Nick wanted me to make them for his kids recently and we had lots of fun making them and eati

The Best Recipes of 2020

I am happy to announce that the top recipe for 2020 on my blog was one of  Hannah Freese, RD's  recipe that I make over and over again,  Pumpkin Bean Chili .  Apparently, other people liked it, as well, because it was the #1 most popular recipe on my blog for 2020.   I make this recipe a couple times per month.  I would say that this recipe has taken the place of spaghetti in our house.  We use to eat spaghetti pretty often and it would always be a staple dinner.  Now, it's the pumpkin chili.  Of course, it's been chili-type weather since I started Hannah's method of eating in September.  But interestingly, this is the most recent of the top three popular recipes, yet it got the most hits.  I don't eat pasta anymore and I cook my own pinto beans when I make this recipe.  Pinto beans cook fast so I can start them in the morning and they are ready to add to the chili by dinnertime.  But of course, you can use canned pinto beans, too.  I keep cans of pumpkin and an ext

Almond Broccoli Protein Salad

Here is a recipe to start off the New Year in a healthy manner.  I made this salad for our New Year's dinner to take over to Nick's house. We had received an  Amana ham  from a vendor that Bruce worked with who sends us a ham every year.  Usually, we save it for our Super Bowl party but we certainly won't be having one of those this year.  So, we decided to have it on New Year's Eve and take it over to Nick's house. Nick's been home from work for 2 weeks since they have a break over the holiday and our granddaughter has not be going to preschool during this break so we figure there was less covid risk spending time indoors with them.  The grandkids were so eager to show us all their toys and have us play with them. I particularly had fun on their new gymnastic equipment that Santa brought them; a bar and balance bean that is low to the ground so you can't really fall off.  The beam was great for me to practice my balance, even though my granddaughter kept c
