Bourbon Peach Basil Smash

Yesterday, we had a Labor Day barbecue at our house with Bruce's always delicious, fall-off-the-bone tender  barbecued ribs . Everyone else brought food to contribute to our barbecue including deviled eggs, delicious salads and I made an apple cobbler with ice cream for dessert.  Summer is not over yet and we want to take full advantage of our still sunny weather and all the in-season produce available this time of year.   And the peaches are still going strong but not for much longer.  I wanted to use peaches in our Labor Day barbecue special cocktail this year so I came across this recipe by a compa ny called  Be-Mixed .  They make three kinds of mixed cocktail drinks that are sugar-free, zero calorie.  Their website has some incredible drink recipes so I needed to try this out.   We still have lots of fresh basil, too, so a peach and basil recipe was perfect.  Everyone loved them.  I will adm...

Celebrations

Yesterday was Bruce's birthday and we celebrated Monday by inviting my family over for our first official family barbecue at our new home in Seattle.  After all our moving, unpacking, re-organizing, figuring out where things should go, we were ready for a celebration. It feels so good to be moved in.   My kitchen is in great working order now so I was able to make Bruce's favorite cake for his birthday -  carrot cake . Everyone in my family was able to come since it was also Labor Day so we had 16 people here to break in our house. Bruce and I were very happy with the way everything flowed, lots of room for everyone to enjoy themselves whether it be to enjoy the view or to enjoy the smoked salmon that Bruce made or play a friendly game of ping pong in the basement or play with toys I've saved over the years, now for the next generation to enjoy.
