My Day

Yesterday was my birthday and it was one of the best yet.  Just being in Seattle now with our own house is gift enough for me. But still, Bruce and Nick got up early and headed out to bring me back breakfast at our new favorite,  Bakery Nouveau and some gorgeous flowers from the  Admiral Bird . What more could a girl ask for?  A chicken... You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl.  What can I say? There were too many things to consider to do on a typical Saturday in Seattle.  This is part of my new Seattle life so I might as well start getting use it. Some of the activities included our neighborhood West Seattle Summer Fest, or the Greenlake Milk Carton Derby which has always been a fun thing to go to which I haven't been for years , the Seattle Tilth Chicken Coop and Urban Farm Tour, or the International Beer Festival with 220 beers to sample.    As you can guess...

Kokanee Salmon

Tonight, we had Kokanee salmon for dinner.  Bruce brought 5 home from the office that he received from one of his co-workers because he had so many.  He had been fishing at  Anderson Lake   and he catches so many, like 25-30 at a time, that he'll just give them away.  So, tonight we smoked them on the   Traeger . You may have heard of Kokanee before because there is also a beer by the same name from Canada. It's a Canadian lager.  I'm not sure why I know that...but I think I knew of the beer before I knew of this freshwater salmon called Kokanee. This particular salmon never touches saltwater. It is the freshwater version or landlocked version of sockeye salmon.  It doesn't have a strong salmon taste really, but it's still good.  When we cook  salmon , we put a little sliced onion on top and that's all because we love the plain salmon flavor.  Now, these Kokanee salmon don't really have that same intense salm...
