Father's Day 2024

This year was a busy Father's Day but that's okay because the past few months have been rather relaxing for us.  I'm not going to say "boring" because the older I get, the more I like those kind of days and "boring" connotes negativity which isn't how it’s been at all.  I guess if we're  not traveling or having out-of-town visitors coming to our house, then our typical days are just "relaxing" and there's nothing wrong with that.  But this past weekend, my brother and wife came to Seattle so I decided to plan a family barbecue while they were here which ended up being on Father’s Day. After dealing with covid the past four years, I feel like I am getting back into the hang of hosting large gatherings again. I admit that I did get out of practice there for awhile.  The end of March was our Mariner Ticket Party and we'd only been home a few days from a visit to Washington D.C. but we threw that one together pretty well and everyon...

Going, Going, Gone

The Deck Gone Yesterday was a big day for us.  After a year and a half of planning,  Bruce and I are finally starting the remodeling project we've been working on for a new and improved Seattle home.  When we moved here in 2015, we decided we would live in our house two years and then decide what works and what needs improvement.  Well, this is going on our fourth year in Seattle and yes, it has taken us that long to figure it all out. I'm not going to lie, I've gotten impatient, but it is a process.  If you remember my post about the The Wall ,  we knew early on we needed to do something about our dinning room.  For the rest of our ideas, it was a matter of prioritizing and tweaking, determining our budget, deciding who would do it, and then all the little endless details.  It's exhausting.  As you can guess, the main focus will be the deck.  Because of our view, the deck gets used a lot and people gravitate ...

Fish Friday

Happy Friday, everybody.  It's Lent and how many of you are eating fish on Friday? I grew up eating fish on Friday so it sort of sticks with you this time of year. I've been following Cooking Light where your meal suggestions pop-up everyday in your email, complete with recipes. You can switch around meals for different days, save your favorites, etc. I really like the site. Of course, I'm not losing weight, which is the whole point of it (I'd certainly love to lose weight...it's my on-going saga) but I love the recipes. And I love not trying to figure out what to cook for dinner everyday. (They also give you breakfast and lunch meals, as well) I'm not losing weight because I have too many "off" days. Isn't that how it always goes? Ten days at Mariner's Spring training  didn't help. After we returned, we got ready for our Mariner season ticket party which is actually the highlight of our Spring and it was really a good one this ...

Mariner Ticket Party 2017

Another successful ticket selection party is complete.  Baseball season has officially begun. Everyone brought their summer calendars and Mariner baseball schedules over to our house tonight to choose their Mariner games on Bruce's giant Mariner schedule. In ten days baseball will begin in Seattle and we'll all have our tickets in hand. This is like our rite of passage every year.  Winter is over and baseball season begins once again.  We couldn't be happier.  We look forward to this happening every year.   Everyone will bring food to accompany Bruce's barbecued hot dogs, polish sausages, and bratwurst. We'll see each other at the games since we have four seats together so this will just be the beginning of a fun summer ahead for all of us.  Will this be the year?  That's the big question everyone asks.  Will the Mariners make it to the post season?  Only time wi...
