The Best Recipes of 2020

I am happy to announce that the top recipe for 2020 on my blog was one of  Hannah Freese, RD's  recipe that I make over and over again,  Pumpkin Bean Chili .  Apparently, other people liked it, as well, because it was the #1 most popular recipe on my blog for 2020.   I make this recipe a couple times per month.  I would say that this recipe has taken the place of spaghetti in our house.  We use to eat spaghetti pretty often and it would always be a staple dinner.  Now, it's the pumpkin chili.  Of course, it's been chili-type weather since I started Hannah's method of eating in September.  But interestingly, this is the most recent of the top three popular recipes, yet it got the most hits.  I don't eat pasta anymore and I cook my own pinto beans when I make this recipe.  Pinto beans cook fast so I can start them in the morning and they are ready to add to the chili by dinnertime.  But of course, you can use canned pin...

The Best of 2018

The most popular recipe on my blog for 2018 was this Orzo With Roasted Vegetables  that I served for visitors who came over for dinner after attending the International Speciality Coffee Expo held in Seattle last year.   This is a HUGE, int ernational trade show that several of Bruce's business associates attend.  It's always fun to have them over to our house while they're in town.  There are always a few people from Bruce's company who come over and then a couple people from other countries, as well.  It's always a very interesting group and there is lots to talk about because after all, they are here for a coffee convention!  And we all love coffee, right?  I'll usually go to the Coffee Convention at least one of the days to check out all the coffee exhibits and free samples...you can read about it  here  and   here .  It's my favorite trade show that Bruce goes to.  Sadly, it is going to be in Bos...

Tastiest Top Three

Looking back on 2017, I thought I'd let you know which recipes were the most popular.  It was a good year.  Or should I say, it was a yummy year!   I am happy to announce that coming in at #3 is my favorite recipe for 2017, my  Lemon Curd and White Chocolate Truffle Cake .   I was obsessed with this cake and made it three times last year.  Obviously, I made it for Easter for the first time (thus the Easter eggs on it).  I also made it for Lauren's birthday...again it was totally delicious and perfect for our celebration.    I also made it when we had some of Bruce's business associates over for dinner when they were in town for the International Speciality Coffee Convention.   They look very business-like in this photo but they were actually a very fun group and they loved the cake.   I made a point of not serving a lot of carbs for this dinner (the main coarse was our favorite  Herbes de Provence ...

Happy New Year 2014

It is January 1st so that means it's time for New Year's resolutions.  I could be writing about my goals I want to accomplish in 2014, the pounds I want to lose, the personality traits I want to improve upon, the financial improvements I want to make, the increase in my exercise routine, and on and on…Instead, I'd rather look back at 2013 and think of all the good things that actually did happen and what I actually did accomplish.  My New Year's resolutions are always basically the same, anyway.  All of the above mentioned!  So, now that that's done, let's move on to the fun stuff like the most popular Sylvia's Scenario blog posts of 2013… #3  The recipe that comes in at #3 is  asian pasta salad , one of my favorite salad recipes.  It's not really a cole slaw, not a green salad, but it counts as a salad with an interesting twist to it. There's something about Asian recipes that everyone always loves. ( yakitori  came in at ...

2012 Tastiest Top Three

It's time for the Top 3 posts of 2012 and  fruit flavored overnight oats  has won the #1 spot by a landslide!   #1 I do admit this was one of my favorite recipes and I ate them for breakfast regularly.  And putting food in jars was popular in 2012 for all kinds of recipes and even other household functions.  Now that it's winter, I'm into the hot cereal for breakfast since I am a very seasonal eater but will start up my overnight oats again in the spring. This is such a good combination of starch (oatmeal) and fruit together with the creamy yogurt - just really hits the spot in the morning.  Plus, they are so convenient since you can make them ahead of time, store in the refrigerator, grab and go.  I even bought the nice screw top  caps  for the jars for added convenience and also use these caps after I open a jar of our  apple butter ,  plum jam , or  grape jelly . #2  The second most popular re...

Happy New Year - 2012

You can tell I'm not doing anything celebratory t on ight since I'm putting up a new post just hours before midnight.  Such an exciting life. I thought I'd post the top 3 recipes for 2011 that got the most hits on my blog.  So, here's the countdown. #3.     Saucy Chicken This recipe is officially called Thai Fish Sauce and Lime Chicken from Cooking Light 2005 and it is delicious. Thai food is always a big favorite when it comes to recipes.  Good choice, all you bloggers, for hitting on this one. #2    Almond Roca I'm surprise since I just posted this recipe.  It's the #2 most hits already and I just posted it on December 5th!  I guess people can tell a real winner when they see it because this recipe has been passed down from generations.  Candy is not an easy recipe to make, either.  My husband makes this recipe so I can't really take the credit.  He learned it from his mom who learned...
