Green Smoothie with Kale

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I'm starting my day with a green smoothie, appropriate for St. Patrick's Day today and also appropriate after a week of eating  Southern cooking  in  Savannah .   (Not that I'm complaining or anything)  I've posted a couple other   green smoothies   on my blog in the past but it seems like each time I make one, it's always a little different depending on the ingredients I have on hand so there is really no wrong or right recipe. There are few "must haves" for making a green smoothie, however.  First of all, you must have something "green".  Today, I used kale. And usually there is a banana thrown in a green smoothie. After than, I decided to add a sliced apple, a kiwi (because it's green). Another "must have" is a liquid.  I like to use coconut water as my liquid because it is high in potassium and no matter how many bananas, tomatoes, potatoes or oranges you eat, it's alw

Mrs Wilkes' Dining Room

We ate at Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room during our visit to Savannah in 2010 and I really wanted to go back so I could blog about it because it's one of those experiences you don't want to forget.  I also really wanted to go back because the food was so good, a true Southern experience.   They say that Mrs. Wilkes has the best fried chicken in the South.  And I believe it. All the food is served family style with 10 people at a table.   You will know everybody at your table because they don't take reservations and only serve from 11:00-2:00 pm daily for lunch so you must stand in line and you get to know everyone since you're standing in line for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Mrs. Wilkes took over the boarding house in 1943 and kept feeding hungry patrons right up to her death in 2002 at the age of 95.  It has continued with her family now running it.  President Obama ate here when he came to Savannah in 2010 and there are photos displayed from

Savannah

Savannah has got to be one of the most beautiful places in our country. I just can't get enough of it. The Spanish moss is just so....well, I just can't get enough of it. I've been wandering around Savannah for two days now while Bruce attends his trade show in town. We are staying at the chic Mansion at Forsyth Park, which is another experience all in itself. The best part about staying here is that it is right across the street from the 22-acre Forsyth Park on the edge of the Historic District. But before I get too far into blogging about Savannah, let me just say that Savannah has a story about everything. There are so many stories here, so much history here, so much art, so much beauty, and absolutely wonderful food. It's hard to know where to start but I'll start with our wonderful hotel or old mansion where we are staying. It was built in 1888 as an 18,000 square foot house. Over the span of 50 years, only two different families lived he
