Thanksgiving Countdown

I am in the midst of preparing our traditional Thanksgiving meal again this year and last night I made the pies,  pecan pie  and  pumpkin pie , our two traditional desserts for Thanksgiving. I've made my   list  and I've been checking it off as I go.  I seem to be writing more and more on my list these days because I think my memory is getting worse and worse each year!   I started my list last week by making the menu first which is easy since we always eat the same thing for Thanksgiving. Then, I copy off all my recipes so they're at my fingertips and then make the grocery list.  I started my grocery shopping on Sunday.  Monday was my day off work so you can see I had a lot to do.  I worked on Tuesday so I did the last bit of grocery shopping on my way home from work and made pies last night.  Most the cooking will be on Thanksgiving.  Today, I am making the , cranberry sauce , the shrimp spread  for our ...

The List

Now it's Sunday before Thanksgiving and I've done a lot this weekend in preparation for the big meal so my list is falling into place for the rest of the week.  Before I make my list, I make the menu.  Once I have the menu, I get out all the recipes I plan to use to make the items on the menu.  Then I make my grocery list.  That is a real chore because not all the items on my grocery list are at one store so I have to make a point of stopping at various places to pick up all the things I need.  Today, we actually got the turkey at Costco where they had fresh, organic turkeys. I wasn't planning on getting it there but they had them, so I got one!  We are going to  brine  the turkey again this year so we will do that on Wednesday.  I'm off work on Wednesday so I can get a lot of preparations done on that day.  I'm still deciding on what special drinks to make and will mix up whatever concoctions I'll need for the drinks on Tuesday. ...

Count Down to Thanksgiving!

I've got my count down list ready for Thanksgiving and the cooking starts TONIGHT! Our first guests arrive tomorrow, Nick and Sachiyo are driving from Seattle. I have five days of cooking starting now and no time to waste to the biggest eating day of the year! As long as I stick to my list (I don't follow the times, only the days) I'll be on schedule with everything falling into place nicely! Of course, it's not just Thanksgiving I'm preparing for. With Nick and Lauren coming into town, I want to plan meals around my visitors, too. We're having a little pre-Thanksgiving gathering on Monday night since my brother and his wife have to work on Thanksgiving so this will be a nice little visit with them while Nick and Sachiyo are here. I am making chicken and dumplings tomorrow which I know will taste delicious after a long 8 hour drive. We've made the drive many times, Seattle to Boise, so I know exactly what will taste good on arrival. I am making ...
