It's Masters weekend. Barbara and Jim arrived yesterday to spend the weekend golfing and eating Southern cooking for the weekend in the spirit of the Masters. Ever since our trip to the Masters in 2010, we get together on this weekend to reminisce that trip. (See Bruce below in the top, right-hand corner wearing the white cap, hand on face with intensity, watching Tiger putt on the 14th.)
Below Bruce and Jim are watching the action at the 13th from the stands (sitting in the middle of the photo just below the guy's white visor)
The above photos were taken off the TV screen where Bruce and Jim just happened to be in the shot because, of course, they don't allow cameras at the Masters. They also don't allow cell phones and only recently allowed women to golf at Augusta National. The "tradition" at the Masters is of utmost importance! And to a golfer, it is the ultimate golf event.
In 2010, in addition to the golf tournament, we also made stops to visit Savannah, Georgia which we LOVED
and Charleston, South Carolina which we also loved. We basically ate our way through the South making sure we hit the most talked about eating establishments
including Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House in Savannah where I bought her cookbook and have posted some of her recipes on my blog.
After that trip, for me, Master's weekend is now about the food - Southern food, that is. We loved the food on that trip traveling through Georgia and South Carolina.
So, on this weekend, I like to put together some delicious Southern food to feast on. Bruce and Jim go golfing Friday, Saturday and Sunday, come home and watch the Masters on TV and then we feast.
Tonight, we had barbecued ribs, cheddar jalapeno and chive biscuits, fruit salad, coleslaw, and cheese grits. And for dessert, we topped it off with pineapple upside down cake...with a little whipped cream, the true Southern style.
Bruce loves coming home from golf and firing up the barbecue
and the ribs turned out perfect.
We were eager to dig in!
And tomorrow we do it all over again!
