Our move from Idaho to Seattle is finally complete. The moving truck came Saturday, August 15th, two days ahead of schedule which was fine with us, we were eager to get going. But with two days less of preparing, we were busy every minute of our last week in Idaho. Fortunately, we didn't have so much to pack since we packed a lot during phase two of our move. Our last week, we continued to sell items on Craigslist with success and had some time to spend with everyone saying goodbye. Soon the truck was full, the house was empty, the inside cleaned, the lawn mowed and we were ready to hit the road one last time for that drive to Seattle.
From the time we made the offer on our Seattle house on April 21st to the day we moved in on August 16th, it was nearly 4 months. Moving takes a lot of patience, planning, organizing and hard work. We had great movers who moved everything without a hitch
and even took some time to admire the view.
With the house sold, the move over, now the task of tackling all the boxes awaits us.
Sadly, the excitement of our move was short lived, as Bruce's mom passed away the Thursday before the movers came. We had just celebrated her 90th birthday in April and we are so happy we all had that chance to be with her then. The funeral was August 20th so after one day of being in our house, we flew off to Des Moines, Iowa to be with the family. It's never an easy time burying your mother. It was an emotionally exhausting 4 days to add to our physical exhaustion of moving.
We tried to take advantage of Lauren being with us in Iowa this time (she missed the April birthday visit) so she got a nice, historical overview of her Grandpa's company he started in 1964.
We toured the office where her Grandpa started his business, her uncle Paul ran it for years as President, now her cousin Peter is President and Bruce continues to work in the Northwest division.
Funerals are never fun, but it was good for Lauren to hear all the stories of family and the Bratney business - her roots.
It felt so good to get home after that trip even if our house is full of boxes.
We will take our time unpacking now and slowly turn this house into home, taking lots of breaks in-between
and waking up each morning wondering what the day will bring today.
