Moving - Phase Two

If you have to move like we are, it's nice to do it in phases which is how it's ending up for us since we are still waiting for our Idaho house to sell.  The first phase of moving was to pack up half our stuff in a Pods.com so we could stage our house.  After that, we just kept on packing the rest of the closets, cupboards and drawers and put the boxes in the garage.  Our second phase is to move the stuff from the Pod into our new home.  The third phase will be when the movers come to move all the rest of our Idaho house to the Seattle house after the house sells.   We plan on staying put here now until that third phase.  So, if you move like this, it really isn't too stressful.  And we've had lots of time between phases, another good thing.

The Pod came yesterday

and we finished unpacking it today.  It is mainly boxes since most our furniture is staged at the Idaho house so we are living with the bare minimum here.

We now have a few chairs to sit on which is nice but mostly boxes and shelves.

We probably won't be using our garage for awhile...

Unpacking the patio furniture was huge

because we are spending a lot of time out on the deck at this house

for good reason.  The view is addicting.

Bruce wanted a house with a view and I wanted a house with a high walk score, which means it is close to amenities.  We got both.

It's a cute, little 1938 home that was fully remodeled in 2005 and the previous owners kept all the cute '30's charm of the house. I've always been a sucker for "charm".

So, even though we might not have all our furniture right now, we are enjoying every minute of being here.  Nick has been visiting from Japan for 3 weeks which has been perfect timing for us, in more ways than one.  Yesterday, the cable guy came out

to set up our TV, phone and internet service which took 3 hours and I was information overloaded.

But at least we have TV now...

Nick has been helping Bruce and I understand it all, as well as problem solving all our questions about our computers and smart phones.  He is like having our own personal Apple Genius Bar right at home. What would we do without our Millenium generation children?

We also moved the cats with us in the car so now we have them with us in our new house.

They weren't too freaked out in the car.  Ichi was out of the crate most the time because after all his 4-H cat shows and traveling, it wasn't a big deal to him.

We hit the Sunday afternoon traffic on I-90 into Seattle

so he really enjoyed looking at the slow moving scenery from on top of all our stuff.

Crusty, on the other hand, is taking a little more time to accept her new surroundings and spends a lot of time under the covers.  But she'll come around.  She just wants to feel secure for now.

We also brought my electric car on this trip to Seattle.

It took us 11 hours to get to Seattle from Boise (normally 8 hours) because we could not go faster than 55 mph. with the trailer plus we hit weekend traffic.  But it was fun and exciting, just the same, because it was part of our move.

Now I am truly in the land of electric cars.  There are chargers everywhere here.  Nice.

What else will this new life in Seattle bring us?  For now, all we want to do is sit in front of the view and take it all in.

Meatloaf by Mark Bittman

Once again, I turned on the television yesterday and saw that Mark Bittman was on the Today show and was making his version of  meatloaf .  This must be meatloaf season.  It was surprisingly similar to the  Pioneer Woman's version  who was also recently on.   I was a little surprised of his version because Mark Bittman is into healthy eating and has lost a lot of weight and improved his health by changing his diet which he writes about in his book,  Food Matters .  His meatloaf recipe also included bacon and cheese!  I must be doing something wrong.  The thing to remember, which he writes about in his book, is that you can eat healthy without going extreme or changing your whole life.    If you don't know who Mark Bittman is, he is a food writer and a four star chef with multiple cookbooks who loves to eat but changed his food philosophy to improve his health.  He tells his story in Food Matters and provides a plan for responsible eating that covers a no-nonsense rundown on

Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Oatmeal, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don't have very many gluten-free cookies on my blog because quite frankly, I usually don't like gluten-free.  But occasionally, I do find a good recipe and this is one that is from the back of the Trader Joe's oatmeal and it's a good one.  My friend brought some over to our house last weekend when Nick and family were here for our birthday celebrations  and we all loved them. My friend lives a few blocks away and we walk the neighborhood together on weekends.  We can easily go 5 miles in no time, talking non-stop.  She loves exploring our neighborhood as much as I do and we discover so many favorite little spots.  We even found a property with a horse (or more like a pony, I should say.)   The views are always quite lovely, too.  Bruce and I had our thirty-ninth wedding anniversary on July 18th and I made a point of walking past the house where we had our wedding reception.  I told my friend, "Thirty-nine years ago today, there was a big party go

Waking Up in Vegas

and just like that...we were Waking Up in Vegas.   Just like the Katy Perry song. We went to her 78th performance which was her second-to-last Las Vegas residency show entitled "Play".  That was perfect for us because we went to Vegas simply to play.  Her concert was a great finale for us because it was high energy and full of silliness, just the way Katy Perry is.  And we were feeling it after three nights in Las Vegas. "Get up, and shake the gutter off your clothes now, That's what you get for waking up in Vegas".    Here's what she said about her show: "I created this show after the birth of my daughter, Daisy Dove. When I met her, it was like all the love I was ever searching for finally showed up. This show is for everyone’s inner child and for the hope that maybe if we could all see life through the eyes of a child, we would be free. Because never forget, love is and will always be the key,” she said. We went to Vegas spur of the moment because Br
