Cruise Attire-Epilogue

The inevitable happened on this cruise, again - I took too many clothes but it was the closest I've come to wearing everything I took.  You can probably guess what I didn't wear...the workout clothes!  Surprise, surprise.   I wore my walking shoes a lot since I walked the deck for my 10,000 steps on sea days.  As you can see, exercising wasn't a popular activity on this cruise.

Three times around was a mile and I would walk for 1 hour to get in my 10,000 steps.

Bruce would go to the gym and it also had a lot of extra space...I only gained 2 pounds on this trip so I am happy about that.  The walking paid off.  But I wore my bermuda shorts when I walked instead of changing into workout clothes.  I did change into my sleeveless T-shirt because it was hot and sweaty on this cruise.  So, the workout leggings and short sleeve shirt could have stayed home. I also could have left home the capri pants because I wore my shorts most the time.  Here is a shot taken in Aruba.  I couldn't wait to get back to the ship and get in my swimsuit again.

My favorite stop was in the Bahamas at Half Moon Cay.  The water was perfect.  I wore my swimsuit under my clothes on this stop.

I wore my swimsuit more than anything else on this cruise because it was so hot. Bruce and I love to hang out at the pool, dip in to cool off and sip on a frothy drink. I also wore my other swimsuit cover up a lot; the knit dress with palm trees on it.

It was comfortable to just hang out in around the ship, too, like watching the sunset from our deck.

I could have wore this dress for a formal night because people don't dress up that much anymore.  Just throw on a nice necklace and sandals and it would have been good enough.  But I wore my formal outfits since I brought them.

I also wore all my smart casual outfits and did a lot of mixing and matching.

I always loved the folded towels on our bed each day when we returned to the cabin to get ready for dinner.  I couldn't resist taking photos.

I bought a new straw hat so I didn't ever wear the one I packed.  My new one is a lot better because you can adjust the tightness of it with velcro.  I ended up wearing it a lot.

It was only 66 degrees the second day in South Beach so I ended up wearing the sheer, lightweight sweater for one of my formal outfits.  It was also perfect for wearing on the ship in the air-conditioning.

I could have left at least 2 pair of shoes home.  I ended up wearing the same sandals over and over.  You just get comfortable wearing the same shoes so that was a little over-kill in the shoe department.  (which is a common problem with me...)

Overall, the cruise attire packing was pretty close. I could have gone without the capri's, two pair of shoes (one pair of tennis shoes and the pair of black dress sandals) and workout clothes. I think it's common to over pack for cruises but no harm is done. Preparing for a trip and organizing your clothes can be half the fun!  I think the anticipation of what's ahead can be thrilling when preparing for a trip.  We can't wait to go again.

Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Oatmeal, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don't have very many gluten-free cookies on my blog because quite frankly, I usually don't like gluten-free.  But occasionally, I do find a good recipe and this is one that is from the back of the Trader Joe's oatmeal and it's a good one.  My friend brought some over to our house last weekend when Nick and family were here for our birthday celebrations  and we all loved them. My friend lives a few blocks away and we walk the neighborhood together on weekends.  We can easily go 5 miles in no time, talking non-stop.  She loves exploring our neighborhood as much as I do and we discover so many favorite little spots.  We even found a property with a horse (or more like a pony, I should say.)   The views are always quite lovely, too.  Bruce and I had our thirty-ninth wedding anniversary on July 18th and I made a point of walking past the house where we had our wedding reception.  I told my friend, "Thirty-nine years ago today, t...

Meatloaf by Mark Bittman

Once again, I turned on the television yesterday and saw that Mark Bittman was on the Today show and was making his version of  meatloaf .  This must be meatloaf season.  It was surprisingly similar to the  Pioneer Woman's version  who was also recently on.   I was a little surprised of his version because Mark Bittman is into healthy eating and has lost a lot of weight and improved his health by changing his diet which he writes about in his book,  Food Matters .  His meatloaf recipe also included bacon and cheese!  I must be doing something wrong.  The thing to remember, which he writes about in his book, is that you can eat healthy without going extreme or changing your whole life.    If you don't know who Mark Bittman is, he is a food writer and a four star chef with multiple cookbooks who loves to eat but changed his food philosophy to improve his health.  He tells his story in Food Matters and provides ...

Two-Bean Soup with Kale

This hearty vegetarian soup warms up chilly nights.  Use any type of canned beans you happen to have on hand and add chicken or Italian sausage for a heftier dish, if you prefer.
