Last night, we went down to Alki beach to see the Christmas ships. The Christmas ships have been traveling around and stopping at local beaches all month. We thought this was a good opportunity for us to experience them since Alki is our neighborhood beach. The Christmas ships are a 60 year old Seattle tradition. There is a choir on board who sing Christmas carols while they linger around the beach for about 20 minutes before moving to their next destination. At Alki beach, there were complimentary refreshments at the bathhouse which were quite nice.
I enjoyed some hot chocolate
and Bruce enjoyed some muffins.
Outside, there was a band playing
and a nativity scene with Mary holding baby Jesus, shepherds and angels.
We headed over to the bon fire which many of the beaches will have for the Christmas ships.

It was not very cold on this evening. I remember freezing next to the bon fire while watching the Christmas ships in previous years.
But it did rain on and off so we were wet. Therefore, we drove the car and parked instead of walking the whole distance. We have been learning that we must do activities around here whether it is raining or not so a little down pour on this evening did not hinder our fun. For the most part, it was a beautiful evening.
On our walk to the beach from our parking spot, we stopped into the Log House Museum
that was having "A Holiday Party on the Porch", also with refreshments, of course.
Their refreshments included clam chowder from Duke's Chowder House, one of our favorite places.
I particularly liked the gingerbread cookies.
We have never toured this museum so this was a good preview.
Inside is very festive for the season.
We had to leave the museum to be on our way to see the Christmas ships but we will be back to this quaint little museum to learn more about the birth place of Seattle called Alki. Another thing to add to our lengthy list of things to do around here.
