It seems like we just had Thanksgiving and now it's time for another LIST! And I don't mean the kind saying if you've been naughty or nice. I mean the kind telling you that you've got to get organized. I'm having two dinner parties at my house within the next six days so it's time to stop lounging around and get going on my list.
I love my lists, what can I say. I am a list person. I remember when Christmas meant buying gifts for everybody in the family and Bruce and I both have large families. I can't imagine that we bought that many presents for everyone. No wonder I had lists…multiple lists! Then Bruce's family decided to draw names every year so now we each only buy one present for a family member. My family could never all agree how to de-stress the gift-giving issue so we never changed anything. Over the years Bruce and I decided to just give people our homemade almond roca and jam that we make every year. That keeps it easy and everyone looks forward to receiving it each year. Now it's turned into more of a tradition.
I've actually been working on my list since last weekend when I had to get the Christmas tree decorated. With all our boxes of decorations it takes a whole weekend to get it all done, including decorating the tree but I accomplished it.
Check that off my list! (Bruce was out of town, too, so I did it all by myself, I'm so proud!) I even started setting the table for Friday night - the Mayan Calendar's end of the world. I didn't even think about that when we agreed to the date of Bruce's office party at our house.
At least we'll all die with delicious food in our stomach sitting at a beautifully decorated table! I'll be in heaven. (What time is the world suppose to end, anyway?) I'm working that day which makes my list even more critical. It was the only date that worked for everyone in the office except one wife. I'm picking up a bunch of food at Whole Foods since I'm not going to be home to be able to cook much. We just had Whole Foods open in Boise this fall…I know what you're thinking. I've been so deprived. We don't have Trader Joe's here, either. In fact, the grocery shopping options here are pretty pathetic, especially if you're a dietitian who happens to be foodie! When we moved here, I knew I was leaving behind a lot of life's perks that involved FOOD -Pike Place Market (or Seattle's Public Market that us old timers call it) PCC in every neighborhood (food cooperatives), fresh salmon and seafood at our fingertips. But I'm not going into that. We now have a Whole Foods here so I'm taking full advantage.
I must get going on my list now. This is my only day off so it's action packed today. Wish me luck!
