Seeds Bistro and Bar

Spring is in the air so what better time to eat at a restaurant called  Seeds .   Yesterday, we stopped at this quaint little restaurant in La Connor, Washington while touring the  La Connor Daffodil Festival  going on right now for the month of March. This area of Washington is about 1-1/2 hours north of Seattle called the Skagit Valley, a huge farmin g area.  It is known mainly for the  Tulip Festival   during the month of April.  However, the daffodils were pretty awesome, too. The fields just seem to go on forever and the daffodils were so big and healthy looking. There is something very uplifting and energizing about being around these flowers in such abundance.     We stopped at  RoozenGaarde  Display Garden, a three-acre tourist attraction, after obtaining a map at the visitor's center.  The Roozen family business of growing tulips, daffodils and irises is the l...

Watercress and Mango Salad

This is the salad recipe that we made in our  cooking class   on the cruise .  Oh, and did I mention that my version of this salad won first place?  (Another bottle of champagne!) There were four of us assigned to the salad portion of the menu in our cooking class and I think I won first place because I was the only one who "tossed" it.  I wasn't trying to win the contest, I was making it the way I would make it at home.  I like salads when all the flavors are mixed together so you get a taste of everything.  I guess the two chefs judging the salads think the same way.  I've made this salad twice already since we've been home from the cruise.   Lauren actually had a mango in the fruit bowl when we got home and I immediately made this salad for our first dinner home.  Of course, you can do all kinds of versions and instead of watercress, I used the Spring Mix that was in the refrigerator.  If y...

Cruise Attire-Epilogue

The inevitable happened on this cruise, again - I took too many clothes but it was the closest I've come to wearing everything I took.  You can probably guess what I didn't wear...the workout clothes!  Surprise, surprise.   I wore my walking shoes a lot since I walked the deck for my 10,000 steps on sea days.  As you can see, exercising wasn't a popular activity on this cruise.   Three times around was a mile and I would walk for 1 hour to get in my 10,000 steps.   Bruce would go to the gym and it also had a lot of extra space...I only gained 2 pounds on this trip so I am happy about that.  The walking paid off.  But I wore my bermuda shorts when I walked instead of changing into workout clothes.  I did change into my sleeveless T-shirt because it was hot and sweaty on this cruise.  So, the workout leggings and short sleeve shirt could have stayed home. I also could have left home the capri pants because I wore my shorts...
