Spring is in the air so what better time to eat at a restaurant called Seeds.
Yesterday, we stopped at this quaint little restaurant in La Connor, Washington
while touring the La Connor Daffodil Festival going on right now for the month of March.
This area of Washington is about 1-1/2 hours north of Seattle called the Skagit Valley, a huge farming area. It is known mainly for the Tulip Festival during the month of April. However, the daffodils were pretty awesome, too.
The fields just seem to go on forever and the daffodils were so big and healthy looking.
There is something very uplifting and energizing about being around these flowers in such abundance.
We stopped at RoozenGaarde Display Garden, a three-acre tourist attraction, after obtaining a map at the visitor's center. The Roozen family business of growing tulips, daffodils and irises is the largest in the world, covering Skagit Valley with more than 1,000 acres of field blooms and 16 acres of greenhouses. There was a gift shop here-where you could buy daffodils, of course-and a windmill which made for a perfect photo-op. We couldn't resist.
The gardens here are gorgeous, and will be even more gorgeous next month when the tulips bloom. You could see where all the tulips were starting to come up. I've been to this tulip festival before and the colors are breathtaking when all the tulips are out in all their glory. In our selfie below, you can see how the gardens are perfectly color-coordinated.
Driving around we also passed fields of Snow Geese that hang out in these fields from October through March. It can be quite the sight when they all take off in flight at once. Today, they seemed quite content to not go anywhere.
The town of La Connor is know for all it's cute shops and restaurants. I'd been to Seeds Restaurant once before in November with two girlfriends when we came up here to a winery.
Seeds practices the farm to fork concept, using local vegetables, berries and fruits from the Skagit Valley, free range chickens and grass-fed beef. My kind of place.
It also has a bakery inside,
it's dining area very inviting with a fireplace
and very cozy.
It felt good for us to come in and sit down to this nice, homey environment after being out all afternoon.
We both felt like soup but it was also happy hour so we order two appetizers of fried oysters
and mushroom quesadillas, both that were absolutely delicious.
Next, came our soup with homemade bread; clam chowder that was some of the best we've had.
We were full after this but they also had some delicious looking sandwiches, salads and burgers. When I was here in November, I had their hearty meatloaf that was superb. I would like to come back in the summer and sit outside on their patio.
There is a beech tree right in the middle of their deck that was planted in 1890 and the largest beech tree on the West Coast. It's girth is 12 feet!
Seeds Bisto and Bar is a place I will definitely return to and try more of their tempting menu items. And wandering the streets of quaint, little La Connor is also a future outing that I will look forward to.
