I will soon be posting a "Best Of" for our cruise when I get home since there are so many things to write about. Since I have a few more WiFi minutes left on my cruise plan before the end I will tell you about our cooking class we took today with Chef Wayne Johnson. Chef Wayne happens to live near us and has a restaurant in Renton, Washington called Shuga Jazz Bistro.
Everyone wanted to get their photo with Chef Wayne, a very likable and fun guy.
I would say this event was one of the highlights of our cruise and will be on the "Best Of" list.
We signed up early for this class since there were limited spots. Each of us were assigned one of three dishes: Southern "style" Braised Oxtails
Watercress and Mango Salad
and a dessert that was Coconut Flan.
There were about 3 to 4 people preparing each dish with the help of Chef Wayne and one of ship's chefs, Chef Raul. They both had lots of cooking tips and demonstrated lots of their chef wisdom.
When we were done preparing each dish, the two chefs judged them.
And guess what?! My salad won first place in the salad group and I got a bottle of champagne. (Like, I really don't need anymore alcohol on this trip but I'll take it!)
After the class, we all went into one of the special dining rooms of the ship with Chef Wayne and had all three dishes for lunch prepared by professionals and it was delicious.
Everyone in the class had a great time and I think some people are even eager to get home and start cooking again! With food like this, it is easy to see why. We have been eating like royalty on this cruise and the food alone is definitely the "Best Of".
