Pub Crawl Weekend Completed

As I mentioned in my previous post, Rule #1 for my brother's Seattle Pub Crawl is "no girls allowed" but I kept sneaking in here and there around town and disrupting their guy-time together.  Sorry, Rich…I couldn't resist!  After Nick has been in Japan for 7 months, I just wanted to see my boy! Can you blame a mom?  We ran into Nick's college friend with his dad at Pyramid Alehouse before the Marine game on Saturday.

This is a very popular pre-game spot before games, a great place to meet up with people which we often do.

But before all this happened, Bruce and Nick picked up the other 6 guys for the Pub Crawl (Bruce was the designated driver) and headed for breakfast at Hale's Brewery

which not only has great beer but also excellent food. This is where we have had stout floats and they still ordered one this weekend at their 10:45 a.m. pub stop.

Before they arrived at Pyramid pre-Mariner game, they visited Maritime Brewery

then Reuben's Brew which is a new, smaller brewery in Seattle. The brewer came out to explain how they brew their beer and was very accommodating to the guys on the Pub Crawl.

Then, it was Fremont Brewery before heading to the Mariner game.

The Mariner game on Saturday was Turn Back The Clock Day

so the teams wore old time uniforms

with lots of other fun old time things happening during the game

like the hat trick

and the racing Model-T Fords

It was a very fun game but the Mariner's lost so the Pub Crawlers had to go drown their sorrows at Schooner Exact Brewery

I dropped in during this visit while they were all eating some dinner and I could see they were all being treated very well here getting another explanation about the brewery.

They hit two more breweries after this one, including Peddler's Brewing Co.

Bruce took a photo of this neat mosaic made out of pennies.

The last stop was Urban Family Brewing Co. with not a very good photo, at this point.

They ended the evening at a Seattle classic - Dick's Drive-in.

So, that was a full day, if I do say so myself. And then it started all over again today at Elysian Fields.

This is another popular meeting place before Mariner games

and we all went to the Mariner game again today. It was a beautiful day for baseball.

The Mariners lost another one so the Pub Crawlers had to go drown their sorrows again but they don't look too sad! Notice they have lost a couple of the crawlers at this point.

As I write this, the Pub Crawl is still going on out there and I've lost track of all the places they are visiting tonight, although I do know that the above pub is the Elliot Brewing Co. where they had another stout float.

They had an excellent experience at this stop because the waitress remembered all their orders of 25 different beers on 5 different sampler trays. Quite impressive.

This whole weekend was quite impressive, actually. They have visited 14 breweries and sampled 96 different beers this weekend. I'd say their mission was accomplished!

Meatloaf by Mark Bittman

Once again, I turned on the television yesterday and saw that Mark Bittman was on the Today show and was making his version of  meatloaf .  This must be meatloaf season.  It was surprisingly similar to the  Pioneer Woman's version  who was also recently on.   I was a little surprised of his version because Mark Bittman is into healthy eating and has lost a lot of weight and improved his health by changing his diet which he writes about in his book,  Food Matters .  His meatloaf recipe also included bacon and cheese!  I must be doing something wrong.  The thing to remember, which he writes about in his book, is that you can eat healthy without going extreme or changing your whole life.    If you don't know who Mark Bittman is, he is a food writer and a four star chef with multiple cookbooks who loves to eat but changed his food philosophy to improve his health.  He tells his story in Food Matters and provides a plan for responsible eating that covers a no-nonsense rundown on

Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Oatmeal, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don't have very many gluten-free cookies on my blog because quite frankly, I usually don't like gluten-free.  But occasionally, I do find a good recipe and this is one that is from the back of the Trader Joe's oatmeal and it's a good one.  My friend brought some over to our house last weekend when Nick and family were here for our birthday celebrations  and we all loved them. My friends lives a few blocks away and we walk the neighborhood together on weekends.  We can easily go 5 miles in no time, talking non-stop.  She loves exploring our neighborhood as much as I do and we discover so many favorite little spots.  We even found a property with a horse (or more like a pony, I should say.)   The views are always quite lovely, too.  Bruce and I had our thirty-ninth wedding anniversary on July 18th and I made a point of walking past the house where we had our wedding reception.  I told my friend, "Thirty-nine years ago today, there was a big party g

Spinach Stuffed Cod

Last night, I was in the mood for a healthy dinner so decided to experiment with a recipe I found from a blog called Creative in My Kitchen . Lauren and Ari brought us French cookies back from their trip to Paris and I basically inhaled them. They were so good! We were cat-sitting their two cats while they were gone. They liked lounging in the strangest places...  I found one of their toys while I was cleaning so Lauren stopped by last night to pick it up on her way home from work. I was experimenting with this recipe which originally called for chicken breast but I thought it sounded good to substitute fish instead since I'm always looking for good fish recipes. We all thought it was totally delicious. When I went to the grocery store, they had Icelandic cod on sale so I bought about 2 pounds of that. You could use any white fish for this recipe such as:                                                                   true cod or other cod rockfish halibut had
