And So It Begins

I know I said Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday but holiday festivities are starting to rev up so I can't ignore them...Today, I attended two Holiday Open Houses - both which involved food - so double hard to ignore them. Moving to a new community has made me eager to check out what's going on out there so that's exactly what I did today. The first Open House was at our local nursery, West Seattle Nursery, where multiple events were being held. First of all, the complimentary food was impressive. Needless to say, Bruce and I did not need to eat lunch today. What was impressive was that no tray was ever empty and they kept bringing out new items.  There was plenty for everyone attending and it was just simply lovely. Along with tasty treats, there was also complimentary espresso. I mean, this is Seattle, after all. There was a wreath making class going on and a flower arranging demonstration which resulted in a beautiful hol...

Giving Thanks

November is the month of Thanksgiving, which by the way, is my favorite holiday. (After last month and experiencing Halloween around here, Halloween might be taking over the #1 spot!). We did run out of candy, by the way, after about 45 minutes. That was fine by us because it gave us an excuse to go out and experience all the excitement ourselves. Such a fun time. Now, we've put away all our Halloween decorations and have gotten out all the Thanksgiving stuff. Everything had it's spot in our old house but now I had to find the perfect spot in our new home. The fireplace mantel is usually the first thing to decorate. I thought Mr. and Mrs. Pilgrim looked good there with a few small gourde candles.    Putting fall colored items around the house makes it look so festive for the season without much effort. I've always love looking at my turkey candles I got at Pottery Barn years ago. I like the way the sun shines through their tails. I also put a couple o...

Happy Halloween

We are hot and heavy into Halloween and our house is decorated enough to be respectable for the  neighborhood . There is no parking spots available on our street right now because of the  Skeleton Theater   a few houses down. It is really packing them in.  The trick or treaters have been nonstop but I often go outside to check things out and the theater sound is crystal clear.  It currently sounds like Pirates of the Caribbean.  They are doing a rendition of all their previous years which last about 10 minutes and runs continuously until 9:00 pm.  We plan to go check it out later.  In the meantime, you can check out our decorations.  I think we might run out of candy this year...

Keeping Up With the Joneses

We have noticed since our first walk to the  Farmer's Market   that the neighborhood here really gets into Halloween.  More and more decorations are going up all the time.  Most of the decorations are very simplistic but effective. Ghosts are a common theme as is the spider webbing that people love to spread all over there yards. People here don't mind if an effective decoration means digging up their front lawn. Getting places takes a lot longer since I'm often on foot because I want to just stop and look at all the decorations.     One day, the Seahawks were playing so you would see lots of   12th Man flags amongst the Halloween decorations. The decorations are not just in people's yards. Sometimes you must look upwards. Oh, hello there, Mr. Skeleton.  If you look closely, he's waving to his friend across the street. I'm not sure if putting skeletons on telephone poles i...
