Ruth's Chris Happy Hour

Last week, we had our first Mariner game of the season and even though it was wet and rainy (the roof of Safeco Field was closed), we got to see Ichiro play for maybe the last time in Seattle. You see, in 2012 Ichiro was traded to the Yankees and now he plays for the Florida Marlins, a National League team who we never see play since the Mariners are in the American League.   Last week, they had an interleague series with the Marlins and Wednesday was "Ichiro Day".   We got there early to get the dual bobbleheads of Ichiro, the free giveaway on this day. The Mariners won the game but on Ichiro's last at bat in the 9th inning, he hit a homerun! Everyone stood and cheered for him, even though he's on the other team.  And they kept standing and cheering as he rounded the bases and ran back into the dugout.  It was so great.  Seattle still loves Ichiro and so do we.  We hope he gets traded back to the Mariners before he retires but he'...

The Global Specialty Coffee Expo

This is a big weekend in Seattle for the coffee business.   It's the weekend of the Coffee Convention - at least that's what I call it.  It's officially called the Global Specialty Coffee Expo.  I love this weekend during the Expo because:     #1 - I love coffee.  #2 - People from all over the world are here.  #3 - Free samples.  Need I say more?   Bruce's business has a exhibit at the Expo, although he was not actually working at it but he knows everyone working and he spent a lot of time there networking with co-workers and potential customers. We had everyone affiliated with the Bratney Companies over for dinner last night and they loved getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the views after a long day at the Expo. It was fun entertaining them and providing them with a evening where they could kick back and relax and enjoy a good meal. Bruce barbecued our family's favorite  Herbes de Provence Cru...

Lemon Curd and White Chocolate Truffle Cake

This beautiful Easter cake was the hit of the party. And she was not shy about being the center of attention. She fit right in with all the other lovely Easter decorations for dinner last night at my sister's house. So did my Easter bread with it's lone little Easter egg sticking out in the middle of it.  But this springtime cake had to wait her turn to receive our raves.    Our main entree of ham with all the fixings came first.   A truly wonderful Easter dinner. There are lots of Easter desserts to choose from.  I let Lauren and Ari choose the dessert this year and they requested any dessert with lemon curd. Good choice. This cake was a beauty with lemon curd on top, along with her four layers of lemon white chocolate truffle filling between each cake layer. Her frosting was simply whipped cream.  She was a melt-in-your-mouth sensation. I would definitely make her again ...
